Sherri Wilson, DSW, LCSW

Psychotherapist

“We don't have to do all of it alone. We were never meant to.”

As an undergraduate I double majored in psychology and communication and taught at a private school for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) upon graduation. During this time, I began my master’s degree in social work (MSW), which led to opportunities as an outpatient therapist at Richard Hall Community Mental Health Center and an interdisciplinary trainee at The Boggs Center at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

After graduating with my MSW in 2015, I started to work as a research associate in a university setting focused on psychiatric genetics research while acting as a clinical coordinator for a family genetics study on autism. In 2017, I simultaneously began practicing as a licensed therapist in an outpatient setting, specializing in emotion regulation and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). I graduated with my doctorate in Social Work in May, 2021.

While much of my work has centered around individuals on the autism spectrum, as an outpatient therapist I work with individuals of all ages, mostly with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and/or ASD. I believe that a trusting relationship and positive rapport are the most important parts of the therapeutic process and thus the greatest predictor of growth, change, and success; this encourages me to always create a safe, non-judgmental, and encouraging environment for every client.

My practice is eclectic, collaborative, and expresses unconditional positive regard and support from a person-centered, strengths-based perspective; I use a variety of therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI). As a therapist I am sincere, compassionate, and open-minded; I am passionate about helping others, and I look forward to exploring life’s events with you while developing skills and creating positive change.
